Do not assume Adobe products do things correctly, they do not the defaults are not ICC compliant 2. Avoid using laptops for color critical work and critically assess using a laptop with an additional monitor 3. Always use the completion backwards principle, consider your destination 4.

If you’ve been following the threads on color management the end results basically come down to this. In terms of color management you get what you pay for, CorelDRAW simplifies the process and is universally compatible. The alternative application placed before us turned out to not be color managed, the tests prove that a work flow such as this is outdated, color shifts will happen. That answer for universally compatible work depends on your skill set. If you want to use un color managed applications and color is a serious consideration for you, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being bad and 10 being good, you’d not only better be a 10 but real lucky.

Unfortunately there’s no joke here, the choice is use an application like CorelDRAW make one ore two settings and be able to send your work to any part of the world, or use an un color managed application and to do so you must understand every aspect of color management where that file will go bad what will happen to it once it’s there.

I can’t do that and I’ve not seen anyone post on this forum that can either. If there is a war, it’s more about accurate information than accurate color and is a war of our own making. The alternative application placed before us turned out to not be color managed. You were around before PC color-managed applications, right?

Did you ever get accurate color from PostScript files? Or did you just shrug your shoulders to your clients and say, what did you expect? Use a Mac instead because at least they are color-managed? Tell ya what. Why not attach a PDF or link to one because it may be too large that has a profile-tagged image that was imported into CD, have the profile survive into the PDF, and make sure the PDF is universally compatible for any press condition the PDF could go to.

Phil said: That’s because my brain and everybody else’s brain uses Color Constancy. Our brain automatically corrects color based on what it knows. Maybe this is correct from the point of view as a photographer, but Printing companies don’t use “Color Constancy” or something similar.

They will use color profiles, and it’s not relative to the eye-perception, like the RGB. Phil said: I have never met anyone who uses a spectrophotometer to judge pictures.

We judge pictures by their content and presentation. Nobody that I know uses a spectrophotometer. That’s something strange, but perhaps is also relative to the previous point: is the point of view of photographer.

I can’t image how a printing company can work today without a spectrodensitometer. And it’s also very important for Pre-Press: you should measure in order to be sure that the plates are OK. Pre-Press should use a spectrodensitometer regularly for measure the output. And, when the job is printed, the spectrodensitometer is also used to be sure it’s the correct percentage on paper.

When you open the Color adjust dialog you will see the basic steps, if you choose more option you will se other dialog, and for each item you can go to “custom” and have a new dialog for each. It covers everything in the real world including every single photo that I have ever taken of green leaves and red tomatoes.

Any RGB space covers “everything in the real world. For example, most of the Pantone colors couldn’t be displayed on a RGB monitor. Pantone provides the values for visualize colors but almos any of the colors is the real color. Of course if you’re talking about a photography, surely sRGB will cover all the colors on the image.

Yes in fact I used postscript color management as long as I could, however it for the most it part no longer works as the work flows have changed to ICC managed.

In fact I took Fraser, Bunting and Murphy to task for their book as it was completely off base on 3 items. It no longer works in toner or ink jet based digital environment due to 1 the total dedication to ICC color management and 2 many of the current RIPs no longer support assumed color space work flows.

With recent updates the RIPs no longer see the untagged files correctly and therefore print them incorrectly. I do this every day and every professional graphic person should be doing this. What you don’t get is that Corel looks at the embedded profiles for imported and opened documents, uses, assigns or converts the color spaces depending upon your needs and then embeds all three profiles if there is all 3 in the PDF export.

CorelDraw is not some dime store application, it’s fully color managed. Clearly you don’t understand color management, it is nonproductive to suggest that we set the conversion destination of an RGB image at the source because you suggest a theoretical CMYK space not a true device space. These are automated processes in RIPs that are well into the 6 figure range, that most operators don’t even know or understand.

This is how the vast majority of press work is done at quality shops, this is the current evolved state of the process called late binding. On digital work flows for toner based and ink jet devices simply send the PDF with the embedded profiles, it will be directly converted to the media profile to utilize maximum gamut from the device, assuming the output company knows their stuff.

You’re grasping at straws to prove that CDGS has the best color management system in inter-galactic space. I happen to prefer Photoshop X6 over any other photo editor for my own personal reasons. However, I don’t keep pushing it on everybody else. Color management for CDGS has a few dinky dialogs scattered throughout the program and operating system. I didn’t even know that it relied on the operating system to set the monitor profile. I didn’t even know that it had soft proofing for the printer.

I still don’t know if it accepts feedback from the monitor if you elect to use prophoto for your working space. Neither do I know how to convert the file to prophoto to make it compatible with the working space. How do I know what I am looking at should I ever decide to use prophoto. I know. There are newer versions. You can’t even turn the damn “color management system” off if you just want to default to WCS.

I have to leave Corel to use WCS. I don’t much care for Photoshop’s dialogs but at least they are all listed in one place. You have never done that with your lengthy posts. Don’t bother to tell me again that I don’t know what I am talking about. People have been coming back to me for the last fifteen years for brochures and flyers.
